Death of a Hiking Boot

When I went to clean my hiking boots after my last hike I discovered large holes in the soles of both boots, therefore ending the life of a pair of boots that have lasted me over nine years.

I’m impressed the boots lasted so long. Glancing over photos from the past through years I can list around 30 trips I’ve used the boots on throughout NZ and NSW:

  • Ruapehu Crater Lake Climb (2004, 2008)
  • Ngauruhoe Summit (2005)
  • Tongariro Crossing (2005,2006)
  • Coromandel Pinnacles (2004,2005,2006,2007)
  • Broken Hills, Coromandel (2006)
  • Waitakere Ranges (2006 – 2009, Too many trips to count)
  • Okura Bush (2009)

One of many river crossings in the old boots.
  • Blue Mountains (2010 – 2013, Too many trips to count)
  • Minyon Falls, Nightcap National Park (2010)
  • Pindar Cave, Brisbane Water National Park (2010)
  • Lane Cove National Park (2011)
  • Royal National Park (2011)
  • Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park (2011 – 2013, Too many trips to count)
  • Berowra Valley Regional Park (2011, 2011)

I’ve since gone and bought a replacement pair of boots which are currently awaiting their first taste of the aussie bush.
