Photos: Melbourne Formula One 2016

I flew from Sydney to Melbourne on Sunday to attend the 2016 Melbourne F1 Grand Prix, in doing so I literally fulfilled a childhood dream.

After arriving at the circuit as the gates opened, I headed to the “Melbourne Walk” to watch the drivers arriving for the day. This is a great way to get really close to the drivers for photos and their autographs. I then met up with a friend who had also come down from Sydney for the day and we watched the support races from various areas close to the pits.

Happy 2016 – Harbour Fireworks from Sydney

Once again I spent my New Years Eve on the edge of Sydney Harbour.

The plan for this year was to watch the fireworks from Blues Point. However, despite arriving before 11am the site was already totally full. So my friends and I ended up next to the Northern Pylon of the Sydney Harbour Bridge in Bradfield Park.

As seen in the series of images below the fireworks off the bridge just kept on increasing in size as the performance went on and eventually the bridge was lost in a ball of white.

Extreme Sailing Series Sydney 2015

In mid-December Sydney hosted the final act of the 2015 Extreme Sailing Series. I went down by myself for a few hours on the Saturday afternoon and then returned for the entire afternoon of the Sunday with friends.

V8 Supercars Sydney 500 2015 Photos

In early December I went to all three days of the finale round of the V8 Supercars Championship at Sydney Olympic Park.

I was very fortunate to have won a competition for a hot lap in a V8 Supercar on the Friday afternoon. I was not told of which team or car I would have the ride in until a few minutes before the lap. The car I was assigned was the Erebus Mercedes Benz E63 AMG V8 Supercar. I’ve been lucky enough to have ridden in race cars before so I knew what to expect when the car was braking for a corner. However, what I had yet to experience was the sheer power that the V8 Supercar has while accelerating, it was far more powerful than any rollercoaster or ride I’ve been on before.

Below are a few photos from Vivid Sydney 2015. Once again there were light shows all over the city. This year a lot of the buildings had more quick animations making good photos difficult to capture.

Happy 2015 – Fireworks from Sydney

I spent New Years Eve in Sydney with friends overlooking the harbour. This year we went to Athol Lawn, Bradleys Head on the North Shore.

After being sent in the wrong direction by security, we got inside and found a good spot on the lawn looking between the trees across the harbour to the bridge and the city. We then had a eight hour wait for midnight, firstly in direct sunlight and then being cooled by cloud in the late afternoon.

The views from Athol Lawn were impressive. We were further from the bridge than we thought we would be, but being able to see five or six barges along the harbour is a view that I haven’t been able to see before. Glancing back at my photos from previous years, this is one of the best views of the whole city that I have seen.
